Veelgestelde vragen

Quick answers.

How accurate is the US Navy method?

While not as precise as a DEXA scan or hydrostatic weighing, the formula is generally accurate within a 3-4% margin for most adults. It is an effective way to track relative changes in body composition over time using only a tape measure.

How should I take the measurements?

Measure your neck below the larynx, your waist at the narrowest point for women or at the navel for men, and hips at the widest point for women. Keep the tape measure level and snug against the skin without compressing the soft tissue.

Why does the formula require gender?

Men and women naturally store fat in different patterns and physiological locations. The Navy formula uses different mathematical constants and measurement points to account for these biological differences in adipose distribution.

Is my physical data private?

Yes. This tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. No measurements, heights, or calculated results are ever transmitted to our servers or stored in any database.
